After School Enrichment Teacher

Slate School is looking for dynamic after school enrichment teachers for one or more days per week, from 2:45pm – 5:15pm. In this role, you will oversee and plan daily activities, prepare materials, and support student learning with projects. You will also be expected to communicate with parents as needed to facilitate the best experience for each child in the after school setting.  

The work of an after school enrichment teacher is important. Effective enrichment teachers encourage social, physical, and intellectual growth within children and have a strategic mindset. They are friendly, approachable, have a passion for teaching, and have excellent communication skills. 

The candidates we are seeking will have availability in the afternoon, arriving by 2:45pm and staying until 5:15pm. The teacher could participate in this role for just one day per week, or preferably for multiple days, or all five days, depending on their availability.

Music Educator

Slate School seeks candidates for a Music Educator for our K-6 students. Based on the selected candidate, this position can take the form of a part-time or full-time opportunity. The position starts in late August of 2023. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, a Bachelor's Degree in Music, or a Bachelor's Degree in Education with evidence of Music proficiency.

Music instruction by a music educator at Slate School is offered from kindergarten through grade 6. Music classes in grades K-6 meet once a week, and then as needed as a part of an interdisciplinary approach to weave music throughout the wider curriculum. Interested students in Grades 4-6 also have the opportunity to learn an instrument of their own choice to play together in an organized and appropriate collaboration. 

The successful candidate will join our team that provides narrative assessment data and feedback (rather than numerical grades) to share progress and help students to progress within the curriculum and in pursuit of their own musical goals. 

This position is available as a part-time or full-time position, based on the ideal candidate's availability. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Instructional design and implementation: Candidate demonstrates the ability to differentiate instruction for diverse student needs without relying on worksheets and secondary texts. There is a wide a variety of skill and proficiency levels within each class.

  • Works to explore all aspects of music through organized, collaborative, and thoughtful plans that reach all learners. Clearly plans for and implements learning though projects, problem-based learning opportunities, incorporating resources from a variety of viewpoints and experts.

  • Assesses students with appropriate measures including performance and process assessments, all in narrative form, comparing student only to him/herself.

  • Interacts positively with parents, students, other faculty, staff, and partners in education while establishing consistent and ongoing communication.

  • Fosters a collaborative environment in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the school.

  • Demonstrates the value of lifelong learning by openly seeking to grow as an artist and educator, reading professional publications, and engaging in continuing and professional educational experiences, and being open to implementing new strategies and feedback into one's professional practice.

  • Dedication and commitment to the growth, reputation, and excellence of the school in all activities, both in and out of the classroom.

  • Motivating and engaging instructor.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development, and creates an environment conducive to learning, and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students in elementary and middle years.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Music Education, or a Bachelor's Degree in Education with evidence of Music proficiency.

  • Experience working with primary and secondary-aged children.
