Upper School Educators:
History, English, Science, Mathematics
At Slate School, educators are innately curious lifelong learners who inspire students to wonder, explore, and dive deeply into meaningful questions. They embrace opportunities to expand their own learning alongside students, allowing curiosity, discovery, and intellectual growth to flourish in every classroom.
Slate School seeks experienced educators to join our high school team at the Upper School. We are looking for both humanities and STEM educators to join our diverse community of innovative, collaborative, compassionate thinkers, and world changers.
Slate School’s interdisciplinary philosophy brings together a team of educators who each have expertise in a variety of disciplines.
Ideal humanities educators have a strong background in supporting students' exploration of primary sources and a deep appreciation for the ways original documents and texts can spark curiosity, generate meaningful questions, and deepen understanding. We seek educators who view primary sources not simply as evidence to be studied, but as invitations to discovery.
Ideal STEM candidates have experience teaching science and/or mathematics. We are especially eager to engage with candidates who have professional experience and academic background in a science or math discipline. A deep understanding of these subjects enables educators to engage confidently with Slate School’s benchmarks and curriculum while responding thoughtfully and flexibly to students’ questions, ideas, and discussions.
During the 2026–2027 school year, Slate Upper School will include students in Grades 7–9. The school will add Grade 10 in 2027–2028 and continue adding one grade each year, culminating in its first graduating class of 12th graders in 2030. In the high school grades, students and teachers engage in a dynamic, interdisciplinary learning environment. We offer a robust curriculum of over 24 honors-level interdisciplinary core courses in Grades 9-12, in addition to college-level advanced courses in 11th and 12th grade. Our learner-centered approach allows course direction to be shaped by student work, questions, and ideas while maintaining rigorous academic expectations. Collaboration is at the heart of everything that we do.
Through our time-tested apprenticeship model, aspiring and experienced educators learn from accomplished mentors how to facilitate our interdisciplinary, student-centered approach. Educators of all backgrounds -- including experienced teachers from other settings -- benefit from this immersive professional learning experience at Slate School.
Our ideal candidate demonstrates a proven commitment to creativity, curiosity, and innovative teaching. Successful candidates typically bring a combination of classroom teaching experience and a degree in a relevant field of study. They are passionate about working with intellectually curious, highly motivated students and are eager to learn, collaborate, and grow alongside colleagues. State Certification is welcomed but not required.
