Slate School is currently accepting applications for a Classroom Teacher Position, Assistant Teacher Position, and Coordinator of Communications & Outreach for the upcoming 2019-2020 academic year. Classroom Teacher Position

Slate School has a full-time Classroom Teacher position available for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year. The Classroom Teacher will be the lead instructor for a Kindergarten and Grade 1 mixed-age classroom. In addition to teaching, the Classroom Teacher will help to develop curriculum and design innovative learning opportunities. There are also opportunities for the Classroom Teacher to apply specialized expertise to the school curriculum.

The ideal candidate will have a degree or certification in education, and they will exemplify a proven commitment to creativity and innovative teaching. 

Qualifications and requirements include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required at start of employment. A degree in education, or teacher's certification, are highly preferred.

  • At least three years of prior full-time early elementary classroom teaching experience.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Nurturing disposition, and excellent ability to communicate effectively with young children

  • Detail-oriented work style

  • Strong initiative and motivation

  • Strong interest in the arts and/or nature preferred

Assistant Teacher Position

Slate School seeks an Assistant Teacher for the upcoming 2019-20 school year. The Assistant Teacher program provides aspiring educators with training and experience in the classroom under the guidance of Slate School’s Head of School. Assistant Teachers are directly involved in the classroom through supervised teaching and engagement with students.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, and some experience in education. Ideal candidates will exemplify a proven commitment to creativity and innovative teaching. 

Qualifications and requirements include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required at start of employment, with a strong academic record in any major. A degree or certification in education is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills

  • Passionate interest in education

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Detail-oriented work style

  • Strong initiative and motivation

  • Strong interest in the arts and/or nature preferred

Coordinator of Communications & Outreach

The Coordinator of Communications & Outreach position provides an outstanding individual with an opportunity to be a team member of a leading nonprofit school that is working to change the landscape of education. The Coordinator of Communications & Outreach works from the Grove building in the heart of our 25-acre campus in North Haven, Connecticut. The successful candidate will work internally to coordinate innovative collaboration between educators, as well as interface with families and community to advance curriculum and outreach. Ideal candidates exemplify a balance of superior writing, analytical, and communications skills paired with a demonstrated commitment to excellence.

Duties and responsibilities include: 

  • Apply organizational and writing skills to the development and implementation of internal and external initiatives

  • Create and maintain project timelines

  • Contribute to cutting-edge programs in development

  • Coordinate and adapt new tools, and develop applications for classroom and outreach purposes

  • Conduct video and documentary evidence for archival and outreach purposes

  • Present ideas to colleagues

Qualifications and requirements include:

  • Minimum 2-year commitment, though longer commitments are preferable

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required at start of employment, with a strong academic record in any major

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills

  • Passionate interest in curiosity-based education

  • Willingness to learn technology tools for classroom and outreach purposes

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Detail-oriented work style

  • Proficient in multitasking

  • Strong initiative and motivation

  • Skills in iMovie and InDesign preferred

The highest quality candidates will be invited to submit a short application and three letters of recommendation on Slate School's online recommendation form.

After review of all application materials, select candidates will be invited for a phone interview, followed by an in-person interview. Finalists for the teaching positions will be invited to prepare and present a lesson to a current Slate School class.
